Altercation with pitch invader: Turkish Federation summon Super Eagles star Bright Osayi-Samuel
Published: April 01, 2024Through a statement on their official website, the Turkish Football Federation (TFF) have summoned Super Eagles right-back Bright Osayi-Samuel alongside four other Fernabaçhe personnel in connection with their roles in the post-match brawl that erupted following Fernabaçhe's 3-2 away win over Trabzonspor on March 17th.
The incident, which unfolded at Trabzonspor's Şenol Güneş Stadium, saw jubilant Fenerbahçe players celebrating their dramatic victory when chaos ensued.
In an attempt to defend himself and his teammates, Osayi-Samuel punched a masked supporter who had breached the field, an action that immediately placed him under disciplinary scrutiny.
The TFF have also summoned Fenerbahçe defender Jayden Oosterwolde and goalkeeper İrfan Can Eğribayat due to their unsportsmanlike behavior.
Additionally, two Fenerbahçe officials are being investigated for their involvement in the altercation.
The ramifications extend beyond Fenerbahçe's camp, with an assistant coach from Trabzonspor also being called in for questioning.
In an official statement via FIFA's official X account, president Gianni Infantino strongly condemned the recent violence, labeling it "absolutely unacceptable."
The TFF's investigation into the incident is ongoing, and the extent of disciplinary action against Osayi-Samuel, Oosterwolde,Eğribayat and the two Fenerbahçe employees remains unclear.
