'PSG and Chelsea remain interested in Osimhen' - Romano claims race for Napoli striker is still open
Published: April 12, 2024Transfer market expert Fabrizio Romano has insisted that the race to sign Victor Osimhen is still open amid reports that the Nigerian striker is close to reaching an agreement with PSG.
The report went on to add that the 2023 Serie A Footballer of the Year had agreed a four-year contract with the club.
The French table-toppers want to sign the Super Eagles forward as a replacement for Kylian Mbappé who looks likely to join record European champions Real Madrid.
Romano has confirmed that the Parisians like Chelsea are very much interested in the 25-year-old but are still weighing their option on whether they should step up their interest.
"We can't exclude PSG as a solution for Osimhen. They remain interested and appreciate him. For sure, he is one of the players they like, but they have still not decided on whether to go for him in the summer or not," Romano said on his YouTube channel.
"The deal is not close or done now, it will take time to see what happens but PSG and Chelsea remain interested in Osimhen and the race remains open because there is a release clause no one is close to signing him now.
"So the race is absolutely open, these two clubs remain interested but at the moment it is the early stages of the story, nothing is advanced yet with any club."
It appears that the next destination of the Nigerian striker won't get clearer until the end of the season when his suitors will be able to assess their situation before deciding on their summer plans.
With a release clause close to reaching €130m, Osimhen's acquisition will decimate the budget of PSG, Chelsea and other likely suitors, thus the need for a careful assessment of the squad before spending heavily on any player.
