Southampton loanee Paul Onuachu returned to action for Trabzonspor during their 3-2 win over Fatih Karagumruk in the first leg of the Turkish Cup played at the Papara Park on Wednesday night.
Edin Visca gave the home side the lead in the 15th minute, showing alertness and precision to pounce on a loose ball before placing the ball into the bottom corner.
The lead would only last four seven minutes as Karagumruk restored parity through Ryan Mendes who found the bottom corner from Marcus Rohden's pass.
Trabzonspor got back in front in the 41st minute with Stefano Denswil putting the ball into the net, having been assisted by Batista Mendy.
The Black Sea Storm got reduced to 10 men in the stoppage time of the first half as Enis Destan was given his marching orders for making a dangerous challenge.
Four minutes after the start of the second half, Taxiarchis Fountas gave Trabzonspor a two-goal lead with a brilliant finish inside the box.
Flavio Paoletti turned the game on its head in the 80th minute, making the most of a loose ball inside the penalty area to brighten Karagumruk's chances ahead of the second leg.
Onuachu came on in the 58th minute of the game, replacing Fountas who was forced to come off due to an injury and that marked his first appearance for Trabzonspor since February 28.
The Southampton loanee had been battling with an injury to his forearm and only made three appearances for Abdullah Avci's side since his return from the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations before tonight.
He has now made 20 appearances across all competitions for his loan club and has nine goals and three assists.
