Onanuga battles Mac Allister, Alexander-Arnold, Gravenberch, 5 others for Liverpool Goal of the Month
Published: April 30, 2024Box-to-box Nigerian midfielder Fola Onanuga has been nominated for Liverpool's Goal of the Month for April 2024.
Liverpool's official website has compiled a shortlist of the 10 best efforts across all levels of the club for the month of April, with Onanuga making the cut for his brilliant goal against Newcastle United in an U18 Premier League fixture on April 16.
Onanuga opened his goalscoring account for the 2023-2024 campaign with a beauty from outside the box.
The 17-year-old took control of the ball, shifted it to his left foot, and fired a powerful shot that flew past the Magpies goalkeeper in the fifteenth minute of the contest.
Onanuga faces stiff competition to win the Goal of the Month award, with first teamers Alexis Mac Allister, Trent Alexander-Arnold, Ryan Gravenberch also in the running for the accolade.
Other nominees are youth teamers Kaide Gordon, Jayden Danns, Ranel Young and Kieran Morrison, who has been double nominated for his goals against Sunderland, and Women's midfielder Marie Höbinger.
Onanuga has started eleven out of the twenty-three games played by Liverpool in the U18 Premier League this season, and also made appearances in the FA Youth Cup, EFL Trophy and U18 Premier League Cup.
He started the season as a first-year scholar and signed his first professional contract with Liverpool in November 2023.
