Aston Villa transfer chief dubbed 'The Messi of recruitment' holds talks with Iheanacho's camp

Aston Villa transfer chief Monchi, who has been dubbed 'The Messi of recruitment' by the English press has held talks with the representatives of Super Eagles striker Kelechi Iheanacho, amidst speculations of a potential transfer to the Villa Park outfit.

According to a report from Football insider, Monchi met with Iheanacho's camp in Greece before Aston Villa's Europa League second leg against Olympiakos on Thursday.

The meeting comes amidst reports that Iheanacho has rejected a fresh attempt by Leicester City to extend his current deal, which is set to expire in June this year.

The 27-year-old forward is now likely to leave the Foxes on a free transfer, bringing an end to his seven-year stint at the King Power Stadium.

Aston Villa are keen to sign another forward option to provide backup to star striker Ollie Watkins, with Jhon Duran currently performing that role.

Iheanacho's potential arrival would provide a significant boost to Villa's attacking options, given his experience and goal-scoring prowess.

Despite helping Leicester City claim the Championship title this season, Iheanacho has endured a frustrating campaign.

After deciding to remain at the club last summer to help them earn promotion, the Nigerian has seen his minutes in the side significantly reduced in recent months.

He registered just five goals in 23 appearances, a far cry from his expected performance as one of the top strikers in the Championship.

Aston Villa's interest in Iheanacho is a clear indication of their ambition to strengthen their squad ahead of next season.

With the Nigerian's contract set to expire, Villa may be able to secure a free transfer, which would be a shrewd piece of business for the club.
