2023 Flying Eagles invitee announces he is leaving Arsenal for good after thirteen years
Published: May 17, 20242023 Flying Eagles invitee Ovie Ejeheri has taken to social media to announce that his thirteen-year association with Premier League club Arsenal has finally come to an end.
The promising goalkeeper will depart the Emirates Stadium upon the expiry of his contract on June 30, 2024.
Ejeheri joined the Gunners as a schoolboy at U9 level, rising through the ranks to sign his first professional contract in the summer of 2021.
Although he did not make it to the matchday squad for a first team game, manager Mikel Arteta invited him to train with the senior players on countless occasions.
Ejeheri is credited with 21 appearances in the Premier League 2 and also turned out for the Gunners in the U18 Premier League, FA Youth Cup, and EFL Trophy.
The towering goalkeeper enjoyed loan spells at National League South side Chelmsford City and SJK Seinäjoki in Finland last season, posting twenty clean sheets in league matches for both clubs.
In an emotional message, Ejeheri posted on Instagram: "13 years! 8-21. From a boy to a man. Forever grateful to share so many memories over the years at the Academy with everyone. Honestly a miracle to have made it this far. Now it’s time to fly".
Ejeheri was officially called up to train with the Flying Eagles in January 2023, before the U20 Africa Cup of Nations, but couldn't attend the training camp in Abuja due to club commitments.
He is the second Nigerian goalkeeper set to depart Arsenal this summer, following in the footsteps of Arthur Okonkwo.
