Arsenal's Junaid cleared to play in England's historic U17 Euro final v Spain after missing back-to-back games
Published: May 18, 2024Allnigeriasoccer.com can exclusively report that Arsenal's Super Falcons-eligible midfielder Omotara Junaid has received the medical green light to take to the Malmö IP pitch on Saturday afternoon when England take on Spain in the 2024 UEFA Women's Under-17 Championship final.
This game is historic for the Young Lionesses as it marks their first appearance in a European U17 Championship final after nine attempts.
Born in the United States of America to a British mother and Nigerian father, Junaid also qualifies to represent the senior national teams of USA and Nigeria but it appears the promising teenager is leaning towards representing England at youth level.
It was feared Junaid's tournament was over after she missed England's back-to-back wins against France and Poland due to an injury she picked up during the Young Lionesses' win against hosts Sweden.
The Gunners youth teamer underwent an MRI examination to determine the severity of the injury and the results came back negative, paving the way for her to resume full training with the rest of her England teammates.
Before her spell on the sidelines, she was arguably one of the standout players in the 2024 European Championship, starring as the Young Lionesses recorded big wins against Scandinavian nations Norway and Sweden.
England secured a spot in the 2024 edition of the Fifa Women's World cup after defeating Poland 2-0 in Wednesday's semifinal.
Junaid and Manchester City' striker of Nigerian descent Jane Oboavwoduo scored their first-ever goals for England U17s in the win against Sweden in the group stage.
