Newcastle United closing in on deal for Man Utd, Chelsea-linked Nigerian defender
Published: May 22, 2024Newcastle have intensified their efforts to sign Nigerian central defender Tosin Adarabioyo, who is also being coveted by Manchester United and Chelsea.
According to transfermarket expert Fabrizio Romano, the Magpies are closing in on a deal with the 26-year-old alongside Bournemouth defender Lloyd Kelly.
With long-term injuries to Sven Botman and the club's skipper Jamaal Lascelles, it has become paramount for the Magpies to strengthen their defensive department in the summer.
Tosin is one of the players that is being targeted, with the right sided center back also interested in moving to St. James' Park when the transfer window opens.
The Manchester City Academy product will become a free agent next month which means Newcastle United won't pay Fulham a dime for his services, thus enhancing their determination to get his signature.
The Cottagers have tried tying down Tosin to a new deal but he has been reluctant on extending his stay with the London-based side beyond this summer.
The former England youth international has established himself as one of the most reliable center backs in the Premier League and it is unsurprising to see Premier League giants Manchester United and Chelsea also being interested in him.
Both the Red Devils and the Blues are now likely to miss out on signing Adarabioyo with Newcastle now well placed to enjoy his services for the foreseeable future.
