Super Eagles defender suggests no decision has been taken over his future with Rangers
Published: May 26, 2024Nigeria international Leon Balogun has suggested that no decision has been taken over his future with Rangers with his current contract with the club set to expire at the end of this month.
The former Queens Park Rangers defender joined the Gers last summer for the second time in his career because of an injury crisis that rocked their defensive department.
He initially found it difficult to get playing time, making one appearance in the first 10 games in the Scottish Premiership but eventually got into the team at the start of November.
The 35-year-old played a crucial role in the Glasgow-based side's triumph in the Scottish League Cup, playing for the entire duration of the final against Aberdeen and keeping a clean sheet in the encounter.
He got displaced from the team in February and made just three appearances prior to featuring for Phillipe Clement's side in their loss to Celtic in the final of the Scottish Cup yesterday
Speaking on his future after the game, Balogun admitted that he is open to extending his stay at Ibrox beyond this season.
"We will see, first we have to deal with this defeat now and try to switch off a little bit," Balogun told the Rangers Review, via Ibrox News.
"Then we will see what the next weeks bring. I stood here two years ago and opened up about how much I love the club and that hasn't changed so definitely there is an openness (to stay).
"But first, I have to digest today first and then we will see."
Rangers may have to hand the aging the defender a new contract with uncertainty surrounding the future of Connor Goldson and Ben Davies.
The Nigerian center back has made 19 appearances across all competitions this season for the 55-time Scottish champions.
