Confirmed: Watford make contract decisions on two Nigerian players ahead of next season

With a statement on their official website, Championship outfit Watford have announced their retained and released list for the academy following the conclusion of the 2023-2024 season.

The Hornets have made contract decisions on two Nigerian players - Hamzat Balogun and Prince Sikiru - ahead of next season.

Manchester United youth team product Hamzat Balogun will embark on a new chapter in his career as he is one of the players released by Watford.

Balogun was on the books of Manchester United for close to a decade before signing scholarship forms with Watford in August 2021.

An attacking and defensive fullback, he signed his first professional contract with Watford last summer and spent a portion of the 2023-2024 campaign on loan at Southern League Division One Central side Bedford Town in search of first team opportunities.

He has cited Real Madrid star David Alaba and Super Eagles forward Emmanuel Dennis as his role models.

From the U18 squad, Prince Sikiru has been offered his first professional contract, seven years after his arrival at the Hornets.

The highly-rated midfielder offers versatility as he's capable of playing in different positions including left wing and central attacking midfield.

Sikiru has cited Ronaldinho and cap-tied England international of Nigerian descent Bukayo Saka as his role models.
