Chelsea star Ugochukwu, Crystal Palace's Olise named in France's provisional squad for Olympic Games
Published: June 03, 2024Arsenal legend Thierry Henry has included Chelsea midfielder Lesley Ugochukwu and Crystal Palace Michael Olise as part of his 25-man provisional squad for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.
The duo are expected to join the rest of the squad on June 16 at Clairefontaine, France in preparation for the upcoming friendly games against Paraguay, Dominican Republic and Japan.
The 1984 Olympic football champions have been grouped alongside the United States, Guinea and New Zealand in Group A with their first match being against the Americans on July 24, 2024.
Neither Olise nor Ugochukwu has ever been to the Olympics but have been a part of Henry's U21 team, with the former featuring in the UEFA European U21 Championship last year while the latter has been a member of the squad in the last six games.
Olise had another brilliant Premier League campaign with Crystal Palace and his performances have caught the attention of Premier League giants Manchester United.
He scored 10 goals and assisted six times for the Eagles despite missing 19 games due to injury during the course of the campaign.
Ugochukwu managed 15 appearances across all competitions last season for the Blues.
