Napoli prepare new deal for Super Eagles-eligible midfielder named in Italy's Euro 2024 squad
Published: June 13, 2024Italian club Napoli are reportedly poised to extend a contract offer to Nigerian midfielder Michael Folorunsho, who is currently part of the Italian national team's preparations for the Euro 2024 tournament.
Folorunsho joined Napoli in 2019 after catching the eye with his performances at Serie C side Virtus Francavilla. However, he was immediately loaned out to Bari.
Despite being loaned to various clubs in Italy for consistent playing time, it was his successful loan stint at Hellas Verona last season that garnered attention.
In 34 league appearances, Folorunsho showcased his skills, scoring five goals and providing an assist.
His impressive displays earned him a call-up to the Italian national team camp by manager Luciano Spalletti ahead of the Euro tournament.
According to reports from la Repubblica, via Napoli Magazine, Napoli are eager to secure Folorunsho's services for the future and has prepared a new contract offer for the midfielder.
The decision is seen as a move to restore harmony between Folorunsho's agent, Giuffredi, and the club.
Folorunsho made his debut for the Italian senior squad on June 9 in a friendly against Bosnia and Herzegovina, replacing goalscorer Davide Frattesi in the 76th minute as Italy secured a 1-0 victory.
Despite featuring for Italy in friendlies, Folorunsho remains eligible to represent Nigeria internationally as he has yet to feature in a competitive game for Italy.
