Confirmed: Nigerian centre forward signs scholarship deal with Preston North End
Published: July 01, 2024With a statement on their official website, Championship club Preston North End have announced their new intake of academy scholars for the 2024-2025 season.
Nigerian centre forward Somto Ifezue is among the twelve teenagers that has put pen to paper on two-year scholarships at Preston North End.
All players in their U17 year are required to start the 2024-2025 season on a scholarship agreement, before they are permitted to sign a first professional football contract on or after their 17th birthday.
Joining Ifezue in signing a scholarship are: Ben Fitton, Ben Robinson, Charlie Forwood, Clayton Lescott, Ed Nolan, Isaac Lam, Joe Blake, Josh Muir, Li-Bau Stowell, Maddox Banks and Muhammad-Raiyaan Haji.
Ifezue has been with Preston North End since U15 level and has been promoted to Preston's U19s for the upcoming season.
Last season, the striker represented Preston North End in the Youth Alliance Cup, Youth Alliance League and Central League Cup.
Preston's head of coaching Michael Stringfellow describes Ifezue as a right-footed centre forward who's really difficult to play against and does not give defenders any time on the ball.
Ifezue also got that really good knack of being in the right place at the right time and tends to be there when the ball drops in the box.
