Napoli linked with move for youngest ever Nigerian-born player to score in UEFA Champions League
Published: July 04, 2024According to La Gazzetta dello Sport via Voetbal PrImeur, Napoli have been linked with a move for history-making Lagos-born striker George Ilenikhena.
The 17-year-old, who became the youngest ever Nigerian-born player to score in a UEFA Champions League game last season, has caught the attention of Napoli following his performances for Royal Antwerp.
Napoli are preparing for the departure of his compatriot Victor Osimhen and are looking for a replacement.
Chelsea striker Romelu Lukaku is their primary target due to his past relationship with Antonio Conte but the Italian side have to explore alternatives options if they are unable to strike a deal with the Blues.
Ilenikhena is on their radar following a decent performance for Royal Antwerp last season whom he joined from Amiens.
He scored 14 goals across all competitions for Antwerp which include five goals in the Crocky Cup, eight in the Jupiler Pro League which were all scored before the playoffs and one in the Champions League.
Royal Antwerp are open to offers for the talented striker as they need to make sales this summer to balance their books.
Serie A defending champions Inter Milan have also been linked with Ilenikhena but there has been no concrete development since the story emanated.
