Dessers included in Rangers travelling squad to Netherlands despite exit talk; Balogun also named
Published: July 07, 2024Cyriel Dessers has been named in Rangers traveling squad to the Netherlands where they will hold a training camp in preparation for the 2024-2025 season.
The Super Eagles striker has been linked with a move away from the Scottish giants, as there have been reports that Greek champions PAOK want to get his signature to bolster their squad.
Despite scoring 22 goals across all competitions for Rangers last term, Dessers failed to win the hearts of Rangers' faithful and there have been calls that he needs replacing if Philippe Clement's side are to challenge Celtic next season.
As a result, it wouldn't be surprising to see him leave Ibrox for either PAOK or elsewhere in the present transfer window just after a season.
The 29-year-old wasn't the only player linked with an exit from the Light Blues that traveled for the preseason camp, as James Tavernier, Connor Goldson, Todd Cantwell have also made the trips to the Netherlands.
Super Eagles centre-back Leon Balogun who just extended his contract with the Scottish giants also made the trip and he will be looking forward to get more game time in the coming season.
Rangers will face Ajax next Saturday before squaring up with Premier League outfit Manchester United in Scotland seven days later.
The Light Blues have also confirmed friendlies against Birmingham City (July 24) and Union Berlin (July 27) before their season opener against Heart of Midlothian on August 3.
