Confirmed: Botev Plovdiv sell 2023 Fifa U20 World Cup star to FC Zurich
Published: July 08, 2024Through official channels, FC Zürich have announced the signing of 2023 Fifa U20 World Cup star Emmanuel Umeh, who arrives the Swiss Super League side from Botev Plovdiv in Bulgaria.
Umeh was heavily linked with a departure from Botev Plovdiv after starring for the Flying Eagles at the U20 World Cup in Argentina, where he provided two assists in five matches, and now a deal has finally gone through.
Botev Plovdiv and FC Zürich have not disclosed the transfer fee for the signing of the teenage Nigerian winger.
Umeh has put pen to paper on a five-year contract at FC Zurich, until the end of the 2028-2029 season.
The 19-year-old has departed Botev Plovdiv after scoring 11 goals in 47 outings for the first team, and registered three goals in three appearances for the reserve team.
A product of Right2win Sports Club, he moved to Russia at a young age and later to Bulgaria, where he has played since October 2022.
Last season, Umeh won the Bulgarian Cup with Botev Plovdiv, scoring the decisive goal in the final against Ludogorets Razgrad.
The forward teams up with another former Flying Eagles player in the shape of Ifeanyi Mathew at FC Zurich.
Umeh could make his competitive debut for his new employers when they take on Yverdon Sport FC on the opening day of the season on July 20, 2024.
