Official: Manchester United confirm signing of Nigerian goal machine from Arsenal

Through a statement on their official website, Premier League giants Manchester United have confirmed the signing of Danish-born Nigerian goal machine Chido Obi-Martin from Arsenal.

In early July, Manchester United welcomed an initial intake of ten first-year scholars, namely Daniel Armer, James Bailey, Cameron Byrne-Hughes, Frederick Heath, Amir Ibragimov, Godwill Kukonki, Bendito Mantato, Albert Mills, Dante Plunkett and Jim Thwaites.

There have been three additions to the first-year scholars, with Chido Obi-Martin, Samuel Lusale and James Overy joining from Arsenal, Crystal Palace and Perth Glory respectively.

Obi-Martin was in the headlines last November after scoring ten goals as Arsenal U16s defeated Liverpool 14-3.

He showed that performance was no fluke by scoring three goals or more in U18 Premier League matches against Crystal Palace, Fulham, West Ham United, Norwich City and Chelsea in the second half of last season.

Arsenal offered Obi-Martin a scholarship and a professional contract, but were not prepared to break their wage structure for academy players to retain his services.

With 32 goals in eighteen appearances in the U18 Premier League during the 2023-2024 season, he cemented his reputation as one of the most promising teenagers in the world.

Manchester United have pulled off a massive transfer coup to lure Obi-Martin, beating Bayern Munich, Eintracht Frankfurt, Borussia Dortmund,  Monaco and Newcastle United to his signature.

Obi-Martin will begin his career at Manchester United with the U18 team and will sign his first professional contract on his 17th birthday in November 2024.
