'My main assets are speed and physical strength' - Gong's first words after completing Widzew Lodz move
Published: July 11, 2024With a statement on their official website, Polish Ekstraklasa side Widzew Łódź have confirmed the signing of Nigerian winger Hilary Gong from Slovak outfit AS Trencin.
The 25-year-old has joined Widzew Łódź on a permanent transfer, signing a contract with the club until June 30, 2026 with the option to extend it for another season.
Gong is the sixth player signed by Widzew Łódź in the summer transfer window, following in the footsteps of Kreshnik Hajrizi, Jakub Lukowski, Hubert Sobol, Samuel Kozlovsky and Marcel Krajewski.
The Nigerian put himself in the shop window on the back of his impressive performance against Widzew Łódź in a winter friendly, where he scored a goal and provided an assist and also made his presence felt in the opponent's defense.
Gong is predominantly a right winger but ca be used as a left winger and center forward.
In his first words as a player of Widzew Łódź , the Golden Boot Soccer Academy graduate highlighted his qualities.
"My main assets are speed and physical strength, but I can also shoot at goal. I definitely feel best on the wing," Gong said.
"I know what a brand Widzew is and how much the fans care about this club. I want to achieve as much as possible, but I don't focus only on individual goals, because the most important thing is the good of the team."
In his final season as a player of AS Trencin, Gong directly participated in 10 goals (6 goals, 4 assists) in 34 all-competition appearances.
