Oluwayemi set to find himself slip down the pecking order with Celtic's interest in 105-cap international
Published: July 13, 2024London-born Nigerian goalkeeper Tobi Oluwayemi is set to find himself slip down the pecking order of goalkeepers at Celtic with the Scottish Premiership champions linked with an imminent move for 105-cap Denmark international Kasper Schmeichel.
The Hoops are in the market for a new goalkeeper after ex-England star Joe Hart retired from playing football at the end of the 2023-2024 season.
Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers is eyeing a reunion with Kasper Schmeichel, with whom he worked with at Leicester City.
With the Northern Irish football tactician in the Foxes dugout, the Scandinavian goalie posted forty-four clean sheets in 155 all-competition appearances.
Rodgers is checking out Tobi Oluwayemi in the early part of pre-season preparations before making a decision on his future, whether to retain him in the first team or loan him out for the third time in his Celtic career.
The England youth international participated in Celtic's first two pre-season fixtures, coming off the bench against Ayr United and Queen's Park.
As of now, Oluwayemi is behind Benjamin Siegrist and Scott Bain in the goalkeeper hierarchy at Celtic Park but the Swiss is angling for a move away from the Scottish giants.
The Anglo-Nigerian youngster impressed during a loan spell at Admira Wacker, where he posted five clean sheets in nine outings while conceding six goals in the second half of last season.
He received two call-ups for Europa Conference League matches during the 2021-2022 season, but was a non-playing substitute in both games.
