After missing out on Ndidi, Everton eye move for Chelsea's Nigerian midfielder
Published: July 13, 2024According to Footmercato, Everton are interested in a loan deal for Chelsea's Nigerian midfielder Lesley Ugochukwu after missing out on Leicester City star Wilfred Ndidi.
Ndidi attracted interest from the Toffees before he committed his future to the Foxes by signing a three-year contract that will keep him at the King Power Stadium until June 30, 2027.
The report states that the Toffees alongside an unnamed Ligue 1 outfit and one other club are interested in the French youth international who struggled for game time in his first season with the Blues.
Everton need to bolster their midfield particularly with the impending departure of Belgium international Amadou who is on the verge of moving to Aston Villa.
They will be hoping to take advantage of Ugochukwu's struggle for minutes last season to persuade him to join them as other clubs are also monitoring his situation.
There have been earlier reports that Chelsea were considering what to do with him this summer with suggestions that they will be ready to sanction a loan move for him.
He is also being linked with two other unnamed Premier League teams who are also interested in securing his signature with a loan deal.
The 20-year-old is down the pecking order at Stamford Bridge after making just 15 appearances across all competitions last term, starting six games.
With the return to fitness of Roméo Lavia and availability of Moisés Caicedo and Enzo Fernández, it is unlikely that Ugochukwu will get enough minutes in the coming season if he stays put at Stamford Bridge.
