Pep Guardiola includes Flying Eagles-eligible forward Oboavwoduo in Man City's USA Tour squad
Published: July 19, 2024Manager Pep Guardiola has taken Flying Eagles-eligible forward Justin Oboavwoduo to the United States, where Manchester City will continue their pre-season preparations ahead of the forthcoming season.
The Premier League champions named twenty-seven players in the United States Tour squad.
City will face Celtic, AC Milan, Barcelona and Chelsea in their four-match schedule, with Oboavwoduo in contention to make his unofficial debut for the Manchester-based side.
Guardiola has promoted the England youth international of Nigerian descent to first team training after his brilliant performances last season.
Oboavwoduo shone as Manchester City won the 2023-2024 FA Youth Cup, breaking the deadlock in the 4-0 win over Leeds United in the showpiece.
He made his Premier League 2 debut on August 12, 2023, before turning seventeen years , which shows that he is highly rated by the Manchester City youth team coaches.
On the international scene, Oboavwoduo represented England in the 2023 Fifa U17 World Cup in Indonesia, where he scored a brace in the Young Lions' historic 10-0 win against New Caledonia, and also made his debut for England U18s in the past season.
He joined Manchester City at the age of eight, rising through the youth team ranks to sign a scholarship deal before the start of the 2022-2023 season.
After finishing the season as the top goalscorer in the U18 Premier League North, he was promoted to City's development squad.
