Done deal: Promising striker who has pledged future to Ireland over Nigeria departs QPR for Bristol City

Through a statement on their official website, Championship club Bristol City have announced the signing of dual-national striker Sinclair Armstrong, who joins from Queens Park Rangers.

The 21-year-old has put pen to paper on a four-year contract that will keep him at Ashton Gate until the summer of 2028.

Born in Dublin, Armstrong has made his competitive debut for the Republic of Ireland but remains eligible to wear the Super Eagles jersey as he was an U21 player when he featured off the bench in a European Championship qualifier against Netherlands last September.

He has pledged his international future to his country of birth over three-time African champions Nigeria.

In quotes relayed by Irish Examiner a year ago, Armstrong stated: "No, I feel Irish through and through. I was born here and it's the only country I've played for. I've only been to Nigeria once in my life so I'm happy with Ireland."

Armstrong spent the formative years of his career in his native Republic of Ireland before moving to England to join Queens Park Rangers in 2020, initially linking up with their U18 squad.

Overall, the Republic of Ireland U21 international appeared in 64 matches for the Hoops and had four goals and four assists to his name.

In search of first team opportunities, the former Cherry Orchard and Shamrock Rovers youth teamer was loaned out to non-league clubs Torquay United and Aldershot Town during the 2021-2022 season.

Armstrong will be hoping to make his competitive debut for Bristol City in their first official game of the 2024-25 season at Hull City on August 10, 2024.
