Not only Man Utd: Newcastle, Bayern among clubs pushing to sign Obi-Martin; Man City not in race
Published: July 20, 2024Apart from Manchester United, several top European clubs are battling for the signature of Danish-born Nigerian center forward Chido Obi-Martin.
It is all but confirmed that Obi-Martin will end his stay at Arsenal after turning down a scholarship and professional contract, with a final decision to be made next week.
The Danish-Nigerian wonderkid was by far the best goalscorer in last season's U18 Premier League, netting 32 goals in just eighteen matches, and also impressed in the 2024 European U17 Championship.
The Gunners made a very good offer for him to commit his future to the club but the highly-rated teenager feels his future lies elsewhere.
Obi-Martin has visited Manchester United for a tour of the club's facilities but the Red Devils are facing significant competition for his services.
According to Fabrizio Romano, Arsenal are resigned to losing one of the top academy players in England, despite their latest proposal.
The Italian transfer market expert namechecked five clubs that are pushing to sign Obi-Martin - Manchester United, Bayern Munich, Newcastle United, Monaco and Eintracht Frankfurt - and added that Premier League champions Manchester City are certainly not in the race.
Should Obi-Martin leave Arsenal as expected, the Londoners would be due a training compensation even though he is technically a free agent.
