Rangers linked with move for EFL forward as potential replacement for Dessers

According to the Daily Record, Rangers are targeting a move for Plymouth Argyle star Morgan Whittaker as a potential replacement for Cyriel Dessers.

The Light Blues are hoping that they can recoup the £4.5m they paid for the services of the Nigeria international last summer and use the same in their pursuit of Whittaker who is keen on moving to Scotland against Wayne Rooney's desire to keep him.

The Scottish giants had initially submitted a bid for the EFL forward but had the same rejected and are ready to return with an improved bid if they can move on Dessers.

If the 29-year-old fails to leave, the club have a Plan B in place which is using the money garnered from the sale of skipper James Tavernier for the purchase of Whittaker.

In the same vein, Rangers have been credited with an interest in Tyrese Campbell , the son of late Arsenal striker Kevin Campbell, who became a free agent upon the expiration of his contract with Stoke City last month.

With Dessers criticized for missing gilt-edged chances in his first season at Ibrox, the Scottish side are ready to sell the experienced forward and replace him with younger forwards, thus the link to Whittaker and Campbell who are six and five years younger.

The Super Eagles star started for Rangers in their 2-0 loss to Manchester United on Saturday amid ongoing speculation surrounding his future.
