Young talents Nwaneri, Nichols named in Arsenal's 26-man travelling squad to United States
Published: July 21, 2024Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has named two Nigeria-eligible teenagers in his 26-man squad traveling to the United States for the continuation of the Gunners' pre-season training.
Premier League youngest debutant Ethan Nwaneri as well as quad-national defender Josh Nicols were included in the squad in a bid to make up for the absence of some senior players.
The duo have been training with the first team since the start of their pre-season training last week and were involved during the behind closed-door friendly against Leyton Orient at the Sobha Realty Training Centre yesterday.
With the absence of defenders Gabriel Magalhaes, William Saliba and the injury to Takehiro Tomiyasu, Nichols who can play at both fullback positions could get game time during the Gunners' upcoming friendly fixtures.
Nwaneri should also be able to get some minutes under his belt and will be seeking to impress Arteta in a bid to be given more first team opportunities in the coming campaign.
Arsenal have some big games lined up for their US Tour as they will be squaring up against Manchester United at the SoFi Stadium and Liverpool at the Lincoln Financial Field on July 28 and August 1 respectively.
They will round up their pre-season with a clash against Lyon at the Emirates Stadium before their Premier League opener against Wolverhampton Wanderers on August 17.
