Mourinho's baptism of fire: Osayi-Samuel named in Fenerbahce provisional squad for UCLQ V Lugano
Published: July 22, 2024Ahead of his first competitive game in charge of Fenerbahce, marquee manager Jose Mourinho has included Nigeria fullback Bright Osayi-Samuel in his provisional squad for the upcoming UEFA Champions League second qualifying round tie against Swiss side Lugano.
The Istanbul giants confirmed via their Facebook page on Monday morning that Osayi-Samuel has been named in the 24-man squad announced by Mourinho.
Fenerbahçe will play the first leg away at the Thun Arena on Tuesday, July 23, 2024, with the return leg scheduled for Tuesday, June 30, 2024 at Ülker Stadyumu Fenerbahçe Şükrü Saracoğlu Spor Kompleksi in İstanbul.
Since joining Fenerbahçe, Osayi-Samuel has made 139 appearances and scored seven goals while producing thirteen assists across all competitions.
His contributions have been vital for Fenerbahce as they aim to advance further in Europe's premier club competition.
Osayi-Samuel has European experience, having played in 36 games including two in the qualifying rounds of the Champions League during the 2022-2023 season.
Signed from Queens Park Rangers in January 2021, he has entered the final year of his contract at Fenerbahce.
Born in Okija, Nigeria, Osayi-Samuel made his international debut for Nigeria in a friendly against Portugal on November 11, 2022, and has since earned eighteen caps for the Super Eagles.
