2024 Olympic Games: Chelsea-linked striker Omorodion touted as one of the players Man Utd could target

Atlético Madrid striker Samuel Omorodion has been touted as one of the players competing at the 2024 Olympic Games Manchester United may consider signing in the summer transfer window.

Nigeria U23s did not qualify for the competition but four players of Nigerian descent are participating in the Olympic Games, namely 2021 Super Eagles invitee Michael Olise (France), Sint-Truiden's Japan duo Leo Kokubo and Joel Chima Fujita, plus Omorodion who is representing Spain.

English newspaper The Mirror has identified five promising Olympic players Manchester United could potentially sign in the summer transfer window, including Omorodion, Rennes forward Desire Doue, Villarreal's talented playmaker Alex Baena, Barcelona's Fermin Lopez and Morocco captain Achraf Hakimi,

Manchester United's Premier League rivals, Chelsea remain interested in signing Omorodion but could be priced out of a deal with Atlético Madrid valuing him at 80 million euros.

Last month, Atlético Madrid turned down Chelsea's €30m bid plus add-ons of up to €40m for the dual-national forward.

The 20-year-old spent last season on loan at CD Alaves, where he scored 8 goals in 35 matches, and has not yet played a single game for Atlético Madrid following his move from Granada last summer.

On Omorodion, Patrick Austen-Hardy wrote: "He is young, 6ft 4in and looks hungry to cause havoc - Samuel Omorodion could lead Ten Hag's line or be the ultimate Plan B.

"Ten Hag leant on Wout Weghorst over the course of his first season and the gangly Dutchman helped bring out the best in United's other forward options.

"Omorodion could play a similar role to Weghorst while also offering so much more."

Omorodion has a contract with Atlético Madrid until 2028, and it is unclear whether he is in the plans of Diego Simeone for the forthcoming season.
