Official: PAOK's brand new signing Shoretire chooses jersey number he wore at Man Utd
Published: July 30, 2024Through a statement on their official website, Greek champions PAOK have announced the signing of Shola Shoretire.
The England youth international of Nigerian descent has joined the Super league side on a four-year deal.
Shoretire, who links up with Super Eagles captain William Troost-Ekong at PAOK, will wear the number 47 jersey in the forthcoming season.
The attacking midfielder wore the number 47 on the back of his jersey in his final game for United's first team, against Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park in May 2022, and it was also his official squad number for the 2023-2024 campaign.
Shoretire left Manchester United as a free agent after the expiration of his contract last month and has decided that moving to PAOK is the next destination in his career.
Despite making just five appearances for the Red Devils, he succeeded in etching his name in the history of the club, as he holds the record as the youngest debutant in European competition.
He came on in a UEFA Europa League fixture against Spanish La Liga side Real Sociedad in 2021, to set the record.
The 20-year-old spent the larger chunk of his time at Old Trafford with the youth side and won the Jimmy Murphy Young Player of the Year in the 2020/2021 campaign.
With the scarcity of opportunities to feature regularly for the first team , it is not surprising to see him decide to search for greener pastures which he will be hoping to get at PAOK.
