UCL: Dessers scores priceless goal as Rangers earn dramatic draw against Dynamo Kyiv
Published: August 06, 2024Cyriel Dessers scored his first goal of the season for the Rangers in the first leg of their UEFA Champions League third qualifying round, first leg against Dynamo Kyiv, played at Arena Lublin on Tuesday night.
Former West Ham United striker Andriy Yarmolenko got the first goal of the game in the 38th minute when he scored from close range from Vladyslav Vanat's pass to give the home side the lead.
Dessers first came close to finding the equalizer for Rangers in the 53rd minute when his close-range header was saved by Dynamo Kyiv goalkeeper Georgi Bushchan.
Four minutes into the stoppage time, the Super Eagles forward drew level for Philippe Clement's side, when he tucked the ball into the bottom right corner from Vaclav Černý's pass.
His goal ensured that the Scottish giants will head into the second leg at Ibrox with a lot of confidence with a place in the UEFA Champions League playoffs up for grabs.
Super Eagles defender Leon Balogun also featured in the game, which marked his first start of the season, having come on as a substitute in the Scottish Premiership opener against Hearts last weekend.
Rangers have now drawn their first two games of the season and will be seeking for their first victory of the campaign when they host Motherwell on matchday two of the Scottish Premiership on Saturday at the Ibrox Stadium
