Explained: Why Super Eagles defender has been omitted from Rangers matchday squad v Dynamo Kyiv

Super Eagles central defender Leon Balogun is not available for Rangers' UEFA Champions League third-round qualifying match against Dynamo Kyiv at Hampden Stadium as he was left out of the team list for the game.

However, Super Eagles forward Cyriel Dessers is set to take the lead in the attack for Rangers against their Ukrainian opponents.

Having previously scored a late equalizer in the reverse fixture, the 29-year-old will aim to guide his team to the next round.

In the absence of Balogun, Rangers coach Philippe Clement opted to pair new signing Robin Proper with John Soutter in the central defense for the game.

The Super Eagles defender missed the game due a knock sustained in Rangers' 2-1 win against Motherwell over the weekend.

Speaking at the pre-match press conference, manager Philippe Clement revealed that Balogun was unable to train on Monday due to the injury, a decision which subsequently rule him out of the clash.

"We have one doubt for tomorrow, Leon Balogun felt something at the end of the match - he didn't train today," Clement explained.

Rangers have a strong chance of advancing to the next round after securing a draw in their away match in Poland last week.

The team will be eager to deliver a strong performance and secure a positive result in front of their supporters at home.
