Celtic close to loaning younger brother of 2021 Super Eagles invitee to Dunfermline Athletic
Published: August 22, 2024Scottish Premiership champions Celtic are on the brink of loaning out Tobi Oluwayemi to Championship outfit Dunfermline Athletic.
According to Daily Record's Scott Burns, Dunfermline Athletic are finally set to land Tobi Oluwayemi after trailing the goalkeeper for several weeks.
Oluwayemi, who spent the formative years of his career at the Tottenham Hotspur academy, is the younger brother of former Super Eagles invitee Joshua Oluwayemi who was an unused substitute during the international friendly between Nigeria and Mexico in July 2021.
Dunfermline Athletic are close to agreeing a loan deal to take Tobi Oluwayemi to East End Park.
Celtic bolstered their goalkeeping department in the summer transfer window with the signings of Kasper Schmeichel and Viljami Sinisalo, pushing the Anglo-Nigerian further down the pecking order of goalkeepers as he's also behind Scott Bain.
Oluwayemi is eager for a loan move to secure consistent playing time, something Celtic is unable to provide him this season.
The England youth international was named in Celtic's traveling squad to the United States for pre-season games but was not given minutes in the matches with DC United, Manchester City and Chelsea, which indicates he is not in the plans of manager Brendan Rodgers for the 2024-2025 season.
Oluwayemi previously spent time on loan at Cork City and Admira Wacker but injuries limited his appearances to eleven for both teams.
The 21-year-old comes from a family of goalkeepers as his father, Abiodun Ogunyemi, was a goalkeeper for Ogun State University and attended Federal Government College Odogbolu.
