After failed Chelsea move, Omorodion joins Porto on five-year deal with release clause of N176b

After his failed attempt to join Premier League giants Chelsea, Nigerian striker Samu Omorodion has finally departed Atlético de Madrid.

According to a statement on their official website, FC Porto have confirmed the signing of the 2024 Olympic winner on a five year deal.

The Portuguese giants will pay Atlético de Madrid €15m for 50% of his economic rights and has a €100m (approximately N176 billion) release clause inserted into his contract and two non-obligatory purchase options of a further 15% for 5m each.

Omorodion was close to joining Chelsea not long ago but the deal was eventually called off and he is now set to don Porto's jersey number 9 for the new season.

The Blue and White Dragons just lost the services of Brazilian striker Evanilson to AFC Bournemouth who the Premier League outfit signed as a replacement for Anglo-Nigerian forward Dominic Solanke.

With the departure of Evanilson who led the club's attack until his departure, the Portuguese giants had to bring in another striker as his replacement and have chosen Omorodion.

The Spain U23 international will be playing outside Spain for the first time and will be seeking to build on his performance with Deportivo Alavés in the Spanish La Liga last term.

He joins Super Eagles left back Zaidu Sanusi as the only Nigerian players that will don the colours of Porto's first team this season.
