Official: FC Basel win race for last season's Swiss Super League Golden Boot winner Kevin Carlos
Published: August 24, 2024Through a statement on their official website, Swiss Super League club FC Basel have announced the signing of Spanish-born Nigerian center forward Kevin Carlos who has been acquired from Yverdon Sport FC.
The former SD Huesca youngster attracted interest from several European clubs after an impressive campaign in 2023-2024, where he netted 14 goals in 35 Super League matches to clinch the top scorer award, which he shared with Chadrac Akolo (St Gallen) and Zan Celar (Lugano).
The likes of Besiktas, Servette FC and BSC Young Boys were credited with an interest in the 23-year-old who has cited retired Nigeria international Daniel Amokachi as one of his role models.
FA Basel have strengthened their attack by signing the dual-national player on a four-year contract, until June 30, 2028.
Kevin Carlos joined Yverdon Sport FC on loan from SD Huesca in the Spanish Segunda División in the summer of 2023 and went on to sign a permanent deal last January.
FC Basel said they are extremely pleased that the Spanish-Nigerian young star has chosen the red and blue club over other offers from home and abroad
Commenting on the signing of Carlos, Sporting director Daniel Stucki said: We are delighted that the transfer of Kevin Carlos to FCB has finally worked out. We had our eye on him for a long time because we knew that we absolutely needed more scoring points this season.
"With Kevin, we now have last season's top scorer in our ranks. He is a physically extremely strong and powerful striker who is also extremely dangerous in standard situations.
"Kevin will complement our offense perfectly with his profile."
Kevin Carlos will not be in the FC Basel squad for Sunday's match against Yverdon.
