Felix Uduokhai: Besiktas announce the signing of German-born CB courted by ex-Nigeria coach Rohr
Published: August 27, 2024With a statement on their official website, Beşiktaş have confirmed the signing of Augsburg's dual-national centre-back Felix Uduokhai.
A former Germany U21 international who is provisionally cap-tied to his country of birth, the Annaberg-Buchholz native was among the dual national players with German background heavily courted by Gernot Rohr during his time as Super Eagles coach.
Rohr attempted to convince Uduokhai to switch his allegiance from Germany to Nigeria but the former Bayern Munich defender was unsuccessful before he was shown the exit door by the Nigeria Football Federation.
Uduokhai has joined the Süper Lig side on a loan deal till the end of the season with the club having an option to purchase him permanently next summer.
Beşiktaş had one of the best defence in the Turkish top-flight last term but have still decided to bolster their defence this summer, signing former Arsenal defender Gabriel Paulista, Emirhan Topçu, and now Uduokhai to bolster their central defensive department.
The Super Eagles-eligible centre-back had been linked with a move to TSG Hoffenheim and Eintracht Frankfurt in this window but is now set to don the colours of the 16-time winners of the Süper Lig.
Before now, he had spent all his career in Germany, playing for TSV 1860 Munich, VfL Wolfsburg and most recently Augsburg.
Uduokhai has represented Germany U19s, U20s, and U21s, as well as the Olympic team, but is yet to make his debut for the senior team, which still makes him eligible to play for Nigeria.
