Teenage duo Ogunnaike, Shuaib rub shoulders with Raheem Sterling in Arsenal first team training session
Published: September 04, 2024Anglo-Nigerian left-back Josh Ogunnaike and talented English-Spanish-Indian-Nigerian midfielder Zac Shuaib alongside new Arsenal signing Raheem Sterling were seen in training on Tuesday, September 3 at the Sobha Training Centre.
Ogunnaike,16, penned a new scholarship deal with the Premier League giants this summer and has featured just once in the U18 Premier League this season, having started against West Ham United on the opening matchday but was on the bench in the following fixture against Chelsea.
The 17-year-old Shuaib, on the other hand, played against West Ham and Chelsea, coming on as a substitute in both games, but didn't make the matchday squad against West Bromwich Albion last weekend.
With a lot of of first-team players away, Arteta has invited the teenage duo to train with Sterling and the rest of the squad not called up for international duty.
History-making attacking midfielder Ethan Nwaneri was not involved in the workout as he has been called up to the England U19 squad for the September internationals against Italy, Croatia and Germany.
Sterling made a loan move to Arsenal on the last day of the summer transfer window after he was deemed surplus to requirement by Chelsea.
His struggles with the Blues have cost him a place in the England national team, missing the 2024 European championship and was also excluded from the squad for the forthcoming UEFA Nations League games.
He will be hoping to get his career back on track with the Gunners who haven't had a scintillating start to the season.
