Hijikata continues to impress for Japan

Maya Hijikata continues to shine at the FIFA U20 World Cup.

The 20-year-old striker, who scored in every group match, also netted a goal against Nigeria.

Hijikata connected with a cross from Chinari Sasai to seal the victory for Japan in the 66th minute.

With this goal, Hijikata has now scored 5 goals in 4 matches in the tournament.

Okwuchukwus struggle against Japan

On the other hand, Chiamaka Okwuchukwu was effectively contained by the Japanese defenders.

Despite her speed, strength, and skill, the Nigerian attacker, who has been a standout for the Falconets, was unable to pose a significant threat to Japan's defense.

Nigeria attempts numerous crosses

The Falconets made numerous attempts to cross the ball into the box, especially in the second half, as Nigeria struggled to penetrate the Japanese defense through the middle.

With a focus on the right flank, Nigeria aimed to leverage Okwuchukwu's strength and height.

However, the Japanese defense effectively dealt with most of the aerial balls.

Jumoke Alani, who had more involvement in the second half due to a tactical adjustment, was responsible for delivering most of these crosses, but they did not significantly challenge the Japanese defenders.

Late substitution by Christopher Danjuma

Despite Nigeria's struggles, Christopher Danjuma was slow to make substitutions.

He only made his first change in the 75th minute, bringing on Goodness Osigwe for Amina Bello, by which point Japan had already secured a two-goal lead.

Nevertheless, Osigwe's involvement was crucial as she provided the assist to Nigeria's late goal.

Heavy Rain in Bogota

Although the tournament had mostly seen dry weather in Bogota, heavy rain began in the second half of the match against Japan.

The downpour slightly eased towards the end but did not significantly disrupt the flow of the game, with both teams continuing their efforts to advance to the quarterfinals.
