Osimhen comments on supposedly rivalry with Galatasaray teammates Batshuayi and Icardi
Published: September 26, 2024Speaking after Galatasaray defeated PAOK 3-1 in the UEFA Europa League, Victor Osimhen dismissed any notion of a rivalry between himself, Michy Batshuayi, and Mauro Icardi.
Okan Buruk handed the Super Eagles striker his third consecutive start over Batshuayi and Icardi in Wednesday's clash at Ali Sami Yen Spor Kompleksi RAMS Park.
Osimhen didn't register a goal in the game but provided an assist which was his third for Galatasaray.
Batsuayi has only started one game since the arrival of the Nigerian star striker who was ineligible to fielded versus Gaziantep FK , while Icardi is yet to start any, though the Argentina international is just returning to full fitness.
Undoubtedly, the situation has created a sense of rivalry around the three forwards, but this has been dismissed by Osimhen.
Speaking to Galatasaray's official website after the victory over PAOK, Osimhen stated: "We have a very good relationship with Mauro Icardi .
"He is also a leader. Michy Batshuayi is a very good character. I am very happy to be at Galatasaray.
"We help each other as a team. If I am not there, they are there. We will continue to win as a team."
Buruk has previously stated that he plans on using Icardi and Osimhen together, which indicates that Batshuayi is the third choice at the moment.
The Turkish manager has also not thrown away the possibility of fielding the three central forwards at the same time, but the coming weeks will offer more insight as to what his plan is for them.
Galatasaray next face Kasımpaşa which will be a reunion between Osimhen and his international teammate Kenneth Omeruo.
