Super Eagles captain Ahmed Musa shows he's still got it with brace for Kano Pillars on third debut

Super Eagles skipper Ahmed Musa marked his return to Kano Pillars in brilliant style, scoring a brace in their 2-0 win over Sunshine Stars on matchday five of the Nigeria Premier Football League at the Muhammad Dikko Stadium on Sunday evening.

It was an impressive performance by the seasoned forward, especially considering he hadn't played competitively for club or country since January 8, 2024, when he spent just eight minutes on the field in a pre-Africa Cup of Nations friendly against Guinea.

On his third debut for Kano Pillars, the 31-year-old opened the scoring in the 4th minute, firing an unstoppable shot from inside the penalty area after a brilliant piece of work from Mustapha Umar.

He doubled the lead in the 51st minute and was handed the opportunity to bag his hat-trick from the penalty spot but was denied by the woodwork.

Musa rejoined Kano Pillars last week as a free agent, three years after his last stint with the Northern Nigeria-based side, upon ending his association with Sivasspor.

His first spell with the club was in the 2009 /2010 campaign, where he scored 18 goals to become the player with the most goals scored in a single term, but his record was broken in 2011 by Jude Aneke.

He had another spell in the 2020/2021 campaign, making eight appearances before joining Turkish side Karagümrük on a two-year contract

Alongside Musa, Super Eagles fullback Shehu Abdullahi is also back with the four-time Nigerian champions, joining as a free agent.
