Onyedika and Onyemaechi share their thoughts ahead of Super Eagles Afconq against Libya
Published: October 10, 2024Bruno Onyemaechi and Raphael Onyedika have shared their thoughts before Nigeria's 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying match against Libya.
Many fans and pundits have highlighted that it is a David versus Goliath clash, given that the top team in Group D of the qualifiers is doing battle with the bottom team.
Nigeria's new era under interim boss Augustine Eguavoen has so far been impressive, with a convincing win over Benin's Cheetahs and a draw away at Rwanda, and currently sit top of the group without conceding any goal.
The Super Eagles are set to meet the Mediterranean Knights for the first time in six years but Nigeria have not lost to the North Africans for two decades.
Taking into account their performances since Eguavoen took over the managerial reins on a temporary basis, Nigeria will go into the tie as overwhelming favorites.
Club Brugge midfielder Onyedika revealed that the Super Eagles are targeting back-to-back wins against the Libyans in the doubleheader, while Boavista left-back Onyemaechi has urged his teammates to remain focused.
"The team is in a good spirit. We know the task ahead so everyone is ready to get the six points hopefully," Onyedika said to Football Fans Tribe during the Super Eagles media parley on Wednesday.
Onyemaechi added: "No one here is carried away. Even the supporters need to understand this is football. We are playing at home, the pressure is even more high.
“Our main focus now is to win, to get the three points and qualify. This is what is on our mind now.”
The last time Onyedika started a competitive game for the Super Eagles, the FC Ebedei product opened the scoring in a World Cup qualifying match against Benin in June 2024.
