'An enterprising player from his youth level in England' - Eguavoen labels Lookman 'world-class'
Published: October 11, 2024
Speaking ahead of Super Eagles' encounter with Libya in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers this evening, Agustine Eguavoen labelled Atalanta forward Ademola Lookman a 'world-class' player.
The 26-year-old has been in a very rich vein of form for both club and country which led him to be listed among the 30-man list for the men's Ballon d'Or, the only African Player in contention for the award.
He helped the Super Eagles reach the final of the last AFCON, having scored three goals and assisted one and was named in the Team of the Tournament for his contribution.
The English-born forward would then go on to help Atalanta win their first-ever European title by scoring a hat-trick in the final of the UEFA Europa League against an outstanding Bayer Leverkusen side.
He has been able to continue his impressive form this term, notching three goals and three assists in seven games for La Dea and has also bagged two goals in two appearances in the AFCON qualifiers.
Eguavoen isn't surprised with the form of the 2017 Fifa U20 World Cup-winning who he feels has always been a good player and is now World class though he feels he can still get better
"Not only this year, Ademola Lookman has always been an enterprising player from his youth level in England, and all of that, I am not surprised. If you are surprised, I am not surprised, "he told reporters
"He is still very young, he is still got a lot of progress ahead of him. So I think he's got everything that it takes to be a world (class) player and he is proving that."
Lookman will be seeking to continue his form by helping the Super Eagles get the better of the Mediterranean Knights at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium to continue their good start to the AFCON qualifiers.
