'Can operate in two positions'- Palmer reckons Osayi-Samuel would be a good signing for Norwich
Published: October 13, 2024Former Southampton midfielder Carlton Palmer has explained why Bright Osayi-Samuel will be a good fit for Norwich City.
The English Championship side are reportedly eyeing a move for the Super Eagles right back ahead of the January transfer window in a bid to take advantage of his contractual situation with Fenerbahçe.
Despite losing some key players in the summer transfer window, the Canaries have enjoyed a brilliant start to the season, sitting one point adrift of a place in the Championship play-off spot.
The club would love to build on the momentum by strengthening the squad in the winter transfer window with the signing of players like Osayi-Samuel who isn't a stranger to English football.
The 26-year-old started his career with Blackpool before moving to Queens Park Rangers where he left for Fenerbahçe in 2021 but could now be set for a return if he doesn't agree to an extension with the Turkish side.
Speaking with Football League World on Norwich's interest in the Nigeria international, Palmer detailed why the fullback will be a good signing for Johannes Hoff Thorup's side.
“He has moved back to full-back playing for Fenerbahce, but he used to be a winger at QPR. He's got plenty of energy, plenty of unpredictability, and he can play down the right flank," Palmer stated.
"If they can get him back, I think it would be a fantastic move for Norwich. Since moving to Turkey, he has won the cup, and they've been consistently challenging at the top of the league.
"He's experienced, which would be good for Throup, and he can operate in two positions, so it depends on the type of money they would have to pay. But, with Norwich sitting in 7th place in the Championship, it could be fantastic business.
"It's an area they've got to have a look at, and bringing players in of his quality and experience would help, because Norwich haven't got that much to choose from outside of their first 11 players."
Osayi-Samuel has roughly eight months left on his contract at Fenerbahçe and it doesn't appear the Turkish side's effort to convince him to extend his contract has proved fruitful, thereby opening the possibility of an exit in January.
Besides Norwich, he has also been linked with Crystal Palace and Süper Lig, defending champions Galatasaray.
