Butler-Oyedeji: Borussia Monchengladbach interested in Arsenal's tri-national attacker
Published: October 13, 2024Arsenal's tri-national attacker Nathan Butler-Oyedeji is attracting interest from German Bundesliga side Borussia Mönchengladbach, according to Football Insider.
Butler-Oyedeji qualifies to represent Nigeria through his father, England where he was born and raised, as well as Island nation Saint Vincent through his mother.
Borussia Mönchengladbach have been consistently scouting the 21-year-old, sending representatives to monitor his progress in Arsenal's academy games.
Butler-Oyedeji's impressive displays in the new season and subsequent inclusion in Mikel Arteta's Premier League and Champions League squads have heightened interest in his signature.
Although he has yet to make his senior debut, his performances for Arsenal's Under-21s have been particularly noteworthy, with five goals and two assists in six appearances this season.
Belgian clubs Standard Liege and Eupen considered a permanent move for Butler-Oyedeji in the summer transfer window but he stayed put at the London club.
This growing interest raises questions about his future at his boyhood club.
Butler-Oyedeji's loan stint at Cheltenham last season yielded mixed results, with no goals in 14 appearances.
However, his return to Arsenal's academy sparked a resurgence, showcasing his potential.
The striker's involvement in Arteta's first-team squads for three games this season demonstrates the club's commitment to his development.
The Gunners have recently seen another Nigeria-eligible striker, Chido Obi-Martin depart for Manchester United in search of regular first-team football.
