Push for Serie A title: Former Italian goalkeeper reveals Lookman is Atalanta's decisive player
Published: October 16, 2024Former Italian goalkeeper Simone Braglia has backed Ademola Lookman to help Atalanta push for the Serie A title.
After helping the Bergamo-based side scoop the UEFA Europa League crown last season, the Super Eagles forward has emerged as one of their most important players.
He tried to force an exit in the summer but failed, and he has been able to put that aside to start the season strongly, recording six goal involvements in seven games.
The 26-year-old was named the club's September Player of the Month ahead of top-scorer Mateo Retegui and others, proving his importance yet again for Gian Piero Gasperini's side.
Despite Lookman's form, Atalanta still trails league leaders Napoli by six points, but Braglia isn't ruling them out of the race and has backed the Nigeria international to help the club's title push.
Speaking to TMW Radio via Calcon Atalanta, Braglia backed the Ballon d'Or nominee to make a difference for the Black and Blues when Serie A resumes this weekend.
"I expect Atalanta to begin their pursuit of the top of Serie A. I absolutely do not consider Gasperini's team out of the race for the title," he said .
"The decisive player in this restart could be Lookman, because I see Atalanta as Napoli's only rival"
After his failure to leave last summer, it has been claimed by German Bundesliga transfer expert Florian Plettenberg that the former Everton forward is still open to leaving Atalanta with a move in January not being ruled out.
Plettenberg also claimed that Lookman could be available for a valuation between €25-€30m, a decent fee for a player of his quality and caliber.
