Official: Real Betis sign Falconets defensive midfielder Kalu
Published: October 16, 2024With a statement on their official website, Spanish Liga F club Real Betis Féminas have announced the signing of Nigeria U20 international Chinyere Mercy Kalu.
The 2005-born Kalu was a member of the Falconets squad to the Fifa U20 Women's World Cup in Costa Rica, where she came off the bench in a group game with Canada.
The defensive midfielder has put pen to paper on a contract with Real Betis until 2026.
On her curriculum vitae, she counts Martins White Dove FC, Osun Babes FC, Rivers Angels FC and Nasarawa Amazons FC as here previous clubs.
Before playing for Nigeria at the 2022 U20 Women's World Cup, she was an U17 international.
By joining Real Betis, Kalu has followed in the footsteps of Super Falcons stars Roosa Ariyo and Rinsola Babajide who previously wore the colours of the Andalusian club.
Africa Cup of Nations winners with the Super Eagles Victor Ikpeba, Finidi George and Nosa Igiebor have also represented Real Betis.
Founded thirteen years ago, Real Betis Féminas finished eleventh in the Liga F standings in the 2023-2024 season.
The Sevilla-based club are currently fifteenth in the 16-team table and travel to Granada in their next Liga F match on Saturday, October 19.
