'He told me about his trip to Libya' - Nantes coach reveals Simon narrated his experience in Al Abraq
Published: October 19, 2024Speaking to reporters at the pre-match press conference before his side's Ligue 1 meeting with OGC Nice, Nantes manager Antoine Kombouaré revealed that Moses Simon narrated his experience with the Nigeria national team at the Al Abraq airport in Libya earlier this week.
The good news is that Simon is available for selection to face OGC Nice, with Kombouaré emphasizing that he is in good form and in a positive state of mind despite the ill-treatment the forward and his international teammates received from the Libyan authorities.
Nigeria were set to face Libya's Mediterranean Knights on Tuesday, October 15, corresponding to the fourth matchday of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers, but the game was called off due to an airport fiasco.
Simon and twenty-one Nigerian players were stranded at Al Abraq Airport in Libya for over 16 hours with no food or water, before deciding they'd had enough and flew back to Abuja following the intervention of the Nigerian government.
Simon is safe and sound in France and ready to be involved in some capacity on Sunday afternoon when the Canaries welcome OGC Nice to the Stade de la Beaujoire - Louis Fonteneau (Nantes).
In quotes relayed by the official webpage of Nantes, Antoine Kombouaré stated: “As for Simon, he is doing very well, he told me about his trip to Libya".
Moses Simon is the top dribbler in the French top flight so far this season, having completed 25 take-ons in 580 minutes of action spread across seven matches.
