Team news: AC Milan's match-winner against Udinese, Chukwueze will not start UCL tie with Club Brugge
Published: October 21, 2024AC Milan coach Paulo Fonseca has decided to drop Samuel Chukwueze to the bench for his side's UEFA Champions League clash with Club Brugge on Tuesday night despite proving decisive this past weekend.
The Super Eagles forward scored the only goal for the Rossoneri during their 1-0 victory over Udinese in the Serie A matchday eight fixture played on Saturday at the San Siro.
Despite returning from international duties with Nigeria injured, he was fit enough to feature in the game and was named in the starting lineup for the first time since the 2-2 draw with SS Lazio in August.
He got on the scoresheet in the 13th minute to register his first goal of the season, placing the ball neatly into the far corner after a brilliant piece of play from Noah Okafor and Christian Pulisic.
The 2015 Fifa U17 World Cup winner's performance delighted Fonseca but has not proved enough to convince the Portuguese tactician to start him for the second consecutive time.
Speaking in his pre-match conference ahead of Milan's clash with Club Brugge at the San Siro tomorrow, the Milan boss announced his starting lineup for the game and omitted the name of the Nigerian forward.
In quotes relayed by gianlucadimarzio.com, he said: "I will tell you the formation: Maignan, Emerson, Gabbia, Tomori, Theo; Fofana, Reinjders, Loftus-Cheek; Pulisic, Morata, Leao ".
Chukwueze has started just three games this term, raising questions about his future with AC Milan, and reports are linking him with an exit from the Italian giants as early as the January transfer window.
