'Useless to talk about these issues' - Galatasaray president addresses Osimhen full deal claims
Published: November 05, 2024Galatasaray President Dursun Özbek has addressed reports linking the club to a full deal for 2023 Ballon d'Or nominee Victor Osimhen.
The Turkish giants took advantage of Chelsea and Paris Saint-Germain's inability to sign the Super Eagles striker to acquire his services on a loan deal.
The 25-year-old has had a blistering start to life with the Istanbul-based side, and reports are making the rounds that the club are ready to sign him permanently.
As earlier reported, there is no chance that Galatasaray will sign the Napoli loanee permanently with the striker still focused on playing in the Premier League.
Speaking during a sponsorship agreement ceremony on whether they intend to sign the Nigerian forward through sponsorships, Özbek who is the club's President, refused to give a definite answer to the question.
He stated that the club are enjoying the services of the Napoli-owned striker and was reluctant to give anything away on signing him permanently.
In quotes relayed by Haber Aktüel, the Turkish administrator said: "Galatasaray Football Team is having a successful season. Victor Osimhen is our player this season and his performance is also good.
"We have time ahead of us for the future structuring of Galatasaray, we will take it into consideration then. As the Board of Directors, we want to please the Galatasaray community and no one should forget that we are focused on success.
"Galatasaray is on the path to success. Galatasaray will take its own position into consideration. It would be useless to talk about these issues today. Osimhen is a very important player, we are very happy to have him watched by Turkey."
There is uncertainty regarding whether Osimhen would be fit enough for the UEFA Europa League tie against Tottenham Hotspur at the RAMS Park on Thursday night.
The 2015 Fifa U17 World Cup Golden Boot winner is yet to score in the Europa League this campaign but has two assists to his credit.
He would be hoping to avoid any injury setback that would make him miss the forthcoming games for the Lion and the Super Eagles 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Benin and Rwanda.
