After blistering start at new club, ex-Besiktas star jokes Osimhen has been at Galatasaray for 10 years
Published: November 10, 2024Former Beşiktaş forward Nihat Kahveci has been surprised by Victor Osimhen's blistering start to the season with Galatasaray.
The Nigerian striker has looked at home since joining the Turkish giants on a loan deal from Napoli in the summer and has quickly established himself as a fan favourite and one of the club's best players.
He registered two goals and three assists in his first three games for the Lion to become the first player to muster at least four goal contributions in his first three appearances for the club since Bafetimbi Gomis did the same in 2017.
The 25-year-old has been able to form a formidable partnership with Mauro Icardi and that has helped the Istanbul-based side to continue their dominance in the Süper Lig and be one of the strongest teams in this season’s UEFA Europa League.
Kahveci has been taken aback by the performance of the Super Eagles forward who he feels has been playing as if he had joined Galatasaray long ago.
"We really need to go into Osimhen's childhood. I think he was born in Florya. I think he's been at Galatasaray for 10 years and we don't know, " he told Kontraspor's Youtube channel via haber sari kirmizi.
"Can you play with such a sense of belonging? The goals he scored, his struggle, his goal celebrations, his statements...".
Expectations are set to grow higher for the Napoli loanee due to the injury picked up by Icardi who has now been ruled out of the season as Galatasaray seek to keep hold of their Süper Lig crown and make a statement in the Europa League.
With Icardi's injury, it remains to be seen whether Okan Buruk will now deploy Osimhen with Mitchy Batsuayi or play the former as a lone striker.
