'An experienced player' - Former Chelsea and England captain reveals who to credit for Iwobi's form
Published: December 06, 2024
Former Chelsea and England captain Karen Carney praised Marco Silva for his pivotal role in revitalizing Alex Iwobi's performance at Fulham.
Since joining the club, Iwobi has showcased remarkable skill and consistency, making him one of the standout players of the season.
Iwobi's contributions were particularly evident during Fulham's 3-1 victory over Brighton, where he scored two goals, bringing his total to five goals and three assists in just sixteen appearances across all competitions this season.
Carney emphasized the impact of Iwobi playing in a more central midfield role, stating that it has significantly enhanced his overall performance.
"He has always been a worker, grafter in the team, but it's that quality. I think tonight playing in that more central role, he had that responsibility," Karen Carney said on Premier League Productions , monitored by allnigeriasoccer.com.
At 28, Iwobi is maturing into an experienced player under Silva's guidance, who Carney believes is unlocking the best version of the Nigerian midfielder.
"He's matured now, he's 28, he's an experienced player under a manager that gets the best out of people. Marco is certainly getting the best out of Alex Iwobi there."
Carney also echoed the sentiments of fellow footballer Glen Hoddle, highlighting the importance of finding a comfortable environment where players can thrive.
"I have to agree with Glen Hoddle. Sometimes you find your home and you're settled and with a group of players that you enjoy playing with," she remarked.
"The celebration, the connection with his teammates, so it's a good sign for Iwobi. He just has to continue that."
As Fulham climbs to sixth place in the Premier League table with 22 points, Iwobi's resurgence is a crucial factor in their competitive edge this season.
