Liverpool central defender who wants to play for Nigeria makes FA Youth Cup debut

Liverpool central defender Louis Enahoro-Marcus made his FA Youth Cup on Friday night as the Young Reds suffered a 4-1 loss to Preston North End in the third round.

Born in Benin City, Enahoro-Marcus is willing to represent the Nigeria national teams, even though he is a British passport holder.

After receiving two call-ups without making an appearance in either game in the 2023-2024 season, the dual-national centre-back was given his first minutes in the FA Youth Cup midway through the second half, coming off the bench to replace DJ Esdaille.

Preston North End established a commanding 3-0 lead in the first half, with Felipe Rodriguez-Gentile, Max Wilson and Theo Mawene getting on the scoresheet.

A minute after the hour mark, Dylan Gairns scored Preston's fourth goal, all but sealing the fate of any potential comeback.

Seven minutes from time, Ewing tapped in from close range to reduce the deficit after Kieran Morrison evaded his marker on the right and provided a perfect cross into the box.

In addition to Enahoro-Marcus, another teenager of Nigerian descent Rio Ngumoha, a summer signing from Chelsea, also made his FA Youth Cup debut for Liverpool, playing the entire match.

After making his debut in the FA Youth Cup, Enahoro-Marcus will be looking to feature in the UEFA Youth League for the first time when Liverpool U19s face Girona in their final league-phase match on Tuesday, December 10.
